Save money on your own fireworks & go to a display. See if you can get one that's free but there should always be quite a few going off around the city.
There are a number of options in Auckland:
1. Waitakere Fireworks Display at Waitakere Trust Stadium. Apparently the biggest in Auckland!

But it costs to get in Family tickets $40, $20 for Adults $5 for 13 yrs & younger but I'm sure you should be able to see it near the venue.
2. Tomarata School Fireworks Display, Rodney
With the promise of bouncy castles, food stalls, raffles as well as a huge bonfire, the fireworks night looks to be an exciting one, ending with a fantastic fireworks display.
Ticket prices are $10 per car or $5 per person on the night, starting at 5:30pm.

3. Guy Fawkes at Hush Lounge Bar for Over 18s
On corner of Paul Matthews Drive and Omega Street in Albany.
